HAIR / JEWELRY / MAKEUP STANDARDS
Do I have to cut my hair or wear a tight bun?
No, cadets are not required to cut their hair or wear a particular hairstyle while in uniform. The only requirements are that your hair does not interfere with your headdress or protective equipment, and does not block your face.
Do I have to take out my piercings? Can I wear jewelry?
Cadets can have multiple ear piercings as well as ear gauges / spacers of no more than 2.5 cm square or diameter. A single nose piercing on the nostril is allowed. Other piercings should be taken out while in uniform or replaced with a clear retainer where possible. Cadets are permitted to wear jewelry under their uniforms as long as it does not pose a risk to safety, and is not connected to or representative of criminal or discriminatory activities. Cadets may also wear rings.
Can I still wear my makeup?
Yes, cadets may wear nail polish, artificial nails, temporary lashes, and eyelash extensions unless it impairs your safety or ability to perform their duties. Safety must be considered at all times.
There are exceptions for cultural, spiritual, and religious practices. Full details on the cadet appearance standards while in uniform can be found HERE.
