The Cadet Program is one of the largest federally sponsored youth programs in Canada that includes:
The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets;
The Royal Canadian Army Cadets; and
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the Sea , Army and Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities. They make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of environmental, citizenship and community activities. Cadets also learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship. Cadets are not members of the Canadian Armed Forces, nor are they expected to join the military. While they are introduced to Sea, Army and/or Air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces and certain traditions, they are also introduced to many other respectable career choices that are available to them. Through the Cadet Program, the Government of Canada is investing in today’s youth and Canada’s future. The Cadet Program is community-based. The program succeeds through strong community support and involvement. Cadets in turn make valuable contributions to their communities.
Army Cadet League of Canada
The Army Cadet League of Canada (League) was officially formed in 1971 to work with the Department of National Defence (DND) in support of Army cadets and has a branch office in each of the provinces and the territories. The League is the supervisory sponsor for more than 400 cadet corps across Canada. With the aid of each branch office, the League ensures financial, accommodations and transportation support for programs and services not provided by the Department of National Defence to more than 18,000 Army cadets.
The Army Cadet League of Canada is a civilian non-profit organization working in partnership with the Canadian Forces to support the Royal Canadian Army Cadet program
2966 RCACC Support Committee
The Support Committee is a vital part of every Cadet Corps across Canada and the committee members are the corps representatives of the Army Cadet League. The committee is made up of volunteers that provide fundraising and financial management as well as conducting recruitment campaigns within the community. This committee is generally made up of parents of past and present cadets but is also open to adult members in good standing of the community at large. We are always looking for new volunteers to share their ideas and time! As committee members do at times interact with the cadets, there is an application process to become a Support Committee member that includes a criminal records check and vulnerable sector screening.
The Support Committee also contributes in other ways such as developing and overseeing the yearly budget and expenditures, planning and running Tag Weekends, organizing social events for the corps, managing the canteen that the cadets have access to on training nights, providing food for activities such as corps dinners, sport days and the occasional FTX (field training exercise). There are many other roles too that amount to generally being on hand to provide background support to the Corps (such as the development and maintenance of this website for example).
Please note that the Support Committee is not involved in working directly with the cadets in their training program, the planning and organization of the program or the evaluation and promotion of the cadets. All questions or concerns regarding any aspect of the training program and a cadet's progress or performance must be directed to the corps officers. The most appropriate time for this is at the end of the training night after the cadets have been dismissed from the parade square. Please consider volunteering your time to the Support Committee. Many hands make light(er) work and it's a fun, rewarding role supporting the corps.
